Aerial view of the Tofane skiing center, artificially snowed. This ski area, which hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics, will be the venue for the women’s alpine skiing events during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. According to the “Nevediversa” report by Legambiente, 90% of ski slopes in Italy are equipped with artificial snowmaking systems, with an estimated annual water consumption of 96,840,000 cubic meters, which is equivalent to the annual water usage of a city with one million inhabitants.
